Earlier today, we reported that new iPad models had been registered with the Eurasian Economic Commission. The registration indicates that Apple plans on releasing several new iPads sometime this year. Recent reports have suggested that these may include an updated iPad mini and 10-inch iPad. We’ve also found a reference to what could be the 7th generation iPod touch. However, it doesn’t appear to include Face ID or Touch ID.
Now, developer Steve Troughton-Smith reports that there are four new iPad models referenced in the latest iOS 12.2 beta. The four devices referenced are identified as iPad11,1, iPad11,2, iPad11,3 and iPad11,4. Both Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi + Cellular variations are represented. There’s currently no indication the new devices will include Face ID.
What’s even more interesting is a reference to model identifier, iPod9,1, which could be a 7th generation iPod touch. But apparently it does not include any sort of biometric authentication such as Face ID or Touch ID. A recent report suggested that Apple may be planning to release a new 7th generation iPod touch model in 2019. The 6th generation iPod touch was released in 2015 and Apple continues to sell it for $199 with 32GB of storage. The introduction of a new model this year would mark the first update in nearly four years.
In theory, iOS 12.2 references four new iPads in WiFi & Cellular variants (perhaps mini, and 9.7"?), all without Face ID, and a (seventh-gen?) iPod touch with no Touch ID nor Face ID pic.twitter.com/xiJN6kmmTe
