Instagram for iOS has been updated to support the new display resolutions on iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR. Version 65 is optimized for the larger display and new resolution which allows you to view slightly more content on the bigger screen.

Prior to version 65, Instagram (and other apps that haven’t adapted yet) simply showed a scaled up version of the iPhone X version of the app.

This doesn’t affect the iPhone XS which has the same 5.8-inch display and resolution as the iPhone X, but both iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR have larger 6.5-inch and 6.1-inch displays with a higher resolution. Apps that aren’t yet optimized aren’t a major eyesore, but they’re visually not as sharp as they can be on the new screens.

If you prefer the scaled up version for accessibility benefits, you can turn on Display Zoom on iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR.

Instagram version 65 with iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR resolution support is available on the App Store.
