Injustice 2 has gotten its final trailer, with less than a month left before its release. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and NetherRealm Studios are doubling down on the release of promotional material for the game, whetting the appetites of fans across the globe with a flurry of teasers, videos and announcements. Serving as the follow-up to the critically acclaimed 2013 DC fighting game Injustice: Gods Among Us, expectations are high amongst those who have already enjoyed a ride with the Injustice series.
This time around, a newly implemented gear system will change the style of play for everybody who picks up a controller, no matter their skill level or fighting type. Whilst we know we can jump straight into one-on-one customized battles, exactly who we’ll be fighting against in the game’s story has been kept tightly under wraps. Many thought it would be a pure fight between the Dark Knight and the Man of Steel, but with Brainiac now formerly introducing himself, it would seem he’s the overarching villain of Injustice 2.
Following the release of a Brainiac poster for Injustice 2 earlier this week, there’s now been the release of the final Shattered Alliances trailer; showcasing Brainiac’s arrival on Earth and his plans to take over the planet. You can see that video above.
Promising “no remorse, no prisoners, no survivors…”, Brainiac is clearly a man with a deadly plan, unafraid to wipe out all life forms in front of him to snatch his final goal. Once believing he’d wiped out Krypton and all of its inhabitants with it, he’s now on the hunt for Superman, stopping at nothing to get to him. Whilst Superman and Batman have had their differences in the Injustice 2 promotional videos so far, it would seem the pair are teaming up once in a bid to take out the alien threat.
Bringing Brainiac on as this game’s Big Bad sounds like a good move. The character is an under-used one and potentially even a new face for casual fans of the DC world. He’s clearly a force to be reckoned with and should provide some good challenges for Injustice 2 players come launch day.
In saying that, having a villain that not everybody will instantly recognize could be deemed a little risky. Injustice 2 will largely be judged for the numbers of copies it sells, so let’s hope Brainiac’s involvement won’t start putting the more casual of fans off of picking up their own copy.
Injustice 2 arrives on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on May 16, 2017.
