With just under three months to go until the release of the Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment collaborative game Injustice 2, fans of the franchise – which started with Injustice: Gods Among Us – are getting excited about jumping right back into battles as some of their favorite DC superheroes, villains and everything in between. Given the huge critical and commercial success of the first game, there are some huge boots to fill. Developer NetherRealm Studios returns for the title, and so far have teased an incredibly dark storyline, following on from the one we witnessed in the original.
To-date we’ve seen an impressive roster brought together for Injustice 2, with characters that were on the first game back for more fun along with new faces that have yet to join the fray. Now, Warner Bros. have revealed another returning character in a brand new teaser.
Cyborg has for the first time been highlighted in the Shattered Alliances Part 1 trailer; a piece that promises more reveals and cinematic extravaganzas moving forward.
“The regime will rise” says the trailer, while teasing some huge rivalries and battles that players will be able to recreate when they get their hands on the game. A deeper look into the frame of mind of Superman is also given, with the Man of Steel set on saving the world, but in a way that isn’t quite the traditional “take down the villain” we usually see.
It’s great to see Cyborg back in action, but his place on the roster was probably one of the most secure out of the entire flock with his upcoming feature in this year’s DC Extended Universe release, Justice League (and his own solo flick in the works). Still, having said that, it will be great to jump back into the cyber-enhanced heroes boots and use some bone-crunching fighting techniques and combos to take down rival players and CPUs.
In the coming weeks, those behind the game will be releasing the names of more exciting additions to the roster, following the reveal of some surprises such as Swamp Thing and Black Canary. If that’s to be the case, there’s every chance these new characters could make their way into the second part for this new YouTube series kick-started here. It’s going to be interesting to discover just which other heroes and villains are suffering from Shattered Alliances.
Injustice 2 comes to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on May 16, 2017.
