A new fan-created poster for a proposed Marvel spinoff tackling the complex relationship between Gamora and Thanos is drawing attention from people online. The one-sheet features a young Gamora and Thanos happily spending time together, evoking emotions from fans considering what happened in Avengers: Infinity War.
Thanos’ relationship with Gamora was one of the key plot points in Infinity War and frankly has helped make the Mad Titan more compelling than the average MCU villain. Despite what his adoptive daughter thought of him, there was actually a special place for Gamora in the intergalactic bad guy’s heart, as proven by the difficult sacrifice he had to make by giving up Gamora in exchange for the Soul Stone.
Courtesy of digital artist BossLogic is a fan-poster for a proposed spinoff prequel starring Thanos and Gamora. The one-sheet features the young assassin happily spending time with her adoptive father long before she realizes the evil plan that he has to wipe out half of life in the universe. The creator posted the artwork on his official Twitter account which you can check out below:
After Thanos successfully fulfills his mission of bringing balance to the universe, there was even a hint of regret in Thanos’ face as he gazed on the horizon. The fact that he’s even brought back to the Soul World following his snap via an out of body experience and had that short but powerful conversation with a young Gamora further drives the point that he really did care for her.
Infinity War writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have previously shared that they were initially going to show more of Thanos’ backstory in the film, but they ultimately argued against it considering that it was already jampacked at it is. It might’ve worked better if Marvel Studios came out with a Thanos origins film first exploring his life on Titan and how his quest for the Infinity Stones started. It might’ve even shed a bit more light on his relationship with his “children” and why he had a penchant for Gamora out of everyone.
While a Thanos and Gamora spinoff is highly unlikely now, that doesn’t mean that Marvel won’t resort to other means of telling more of their history together. Perhaps a tie-in comic book could work like how Avengers: Infinity War had a prelude comics that caught fans up on everybody’s whereabouts before hell broke loose in the film.
