Based on the best-selling mystery-detective series created by American novelist Dan Brown, Inferno is set to star returning lead actor Tom Hanks (Bridge of Spies) in the role of Harvard religious iconography and symbology professor Robert Langdon. Following on the heels of the two prior entries in the Langdon conspiracy-thriller movie franchise (including The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons), Ron Howard (In the Heart of the Sea) will be on board once more to direct the third film in the blockbuster series, with David Koepp (Premium Rush) back as the screenwriter.
Following the release of the teaser trailer sneak peek for Inferno, fans of the popular series of novels by Brown are no doubt eager to receive their next look at what they can expect to see in the forthcoming feature film adaptation of the adventures of one professor Robert Langdon. Luckily for them, following the related of said trailer preview and an initial batch of posters, the official teaser trailer has now been unveiled in its entirety.
In the footage featured above, viewers find Langdon pursuing a trail of clues left by a psychopath possessed by the ideas espoused by 14th century Italian poet Dante Alighieri’s “Inferno”, which he uses to craft his own bio-chemically engineered, weaponized virus. The film is set to co-star Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) in the role of the helpful doctor Sienna Brooks, with acclaimed Indian actor Irrfan Khan (Jurassic World) playing Harry Sims “The Provost” and Ben Foster (The Finest Hours) as central antagonist Bertrand Zobrist.
Based on the footage presented, viewers are in for another globe-trotting adventure with Inferno featuring significant elements of Christian iconography and mythology to whet their appetites for more of the same kind of conspiracy theory fiction that the Langdon series has become so well known for. As for the casual viewer, Hanks doesn’t appear to be letting up steam any time soon, and might just be able to manage to squeeze out one more feature film based on Brown’s best-selling novels.
Critical reception has always been a sore spot for Howard in adapting the Brown books to the big screen, but with any luck Inferno will prove to be just as much of a crowd pleaser as the novel upon which it was based was with readers in 2013. Langdon has remained a mainstream success in the eye of the general moviegoing public, making it a safe bet to predict that Hanks will manage to attract viewers to theaters again when the film hits theaters later this year.
Inferno will see theatrical release in the U.S. on October 28th, 2016.
